Roach Control in Central Mississippi

Cockroaches have existed for millions of years. There are thousands of species around the world but many of these cockroaches do not inhabit human environments. The most common species of cockroach in Mississippi include the German cockroach, American cockroach, brown-banded cockroach, and Oriental cockroach.

German cockroach- The German cockroach is one of the most common types of cockroach. These roaches measure up to an inch, life span is up to a year and reproduce faster than any other roach species. To identify look for a light brown head and two dark brown stripes on the head. The most important part of control for the German Roach is to slow down the reproduction, each egg can carry upwards to 20-40 babies. Using (IGR) Insect Growth Regulator, is very important. Most people, if not everyone, hates cockroaches, the sight of them cause's repulsion and disgust. Cockroaches carry human pathogens, including Salmonella and E. coli that cause diseases such as food poisoning and diarrhea. 

American Cockroach- can reach up to 2 1/2 inches in length and are the largest cockroaches that are commonly found in homes. Their color range from reddish-brown to brown and they have bands of light yellow around the shield behind the head. The American cockroach has wings and they are capable of flying short distances. This species can live up to two years and they are most often found in homes near food supplies or stored food. Easily controlled by liquid treating around the foundation, windows, doors and eves of home.

Brown-Banded Cockroaches- grow to about 1inch in length. Females have reddish-brown to dark brown wings while the males have dark brown wings at the base that lighten as the wings extend to the tip. Only the male Brown-Banded can fly. Like other cockroaches, this species also has two bands of light yellow but instead of being behind the head they run across their bodies. The average life span is 3 to 11 months.

Oriental Cockroaches- has a dark-brown or black glossy body. They generally measure 1 1/2 inches in length. Neither males nor females have the capacity to fly. Their life span is only living up to 6 months. Oriental cockroaches generally feed on organic matter. Easily controlled with treatment around foundation and in pine straw or mulch.
